Meet Andy & Curt - founders of Coal Creek Mechanical and Certified Red Seal Plumbers.

The guys met working together for another contractor in 2020. Both came to Fernie in their own way with original roots in the prairies. Curt & Andy clicked with their shared sense of humour and love of snowboarding. They both value family and are committed to working hard and getting the job done right.
​
Curt & Andy (along with Andy's wife Val) took the plunge to branch out on their own after working in the trade for decades under other businesses. They have great relationships with other tradespeople and local contractors.

Curtis Kelsey
Project Management & Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter
Curtis began his apprenticeship in Fernie and has spent the last 10+ years learning and practicing everything there is to know about the trade. He is specifically skilled with boiler systems, gasfitting and furnace service. He takes care of a lot of planning and estimating.Â

Originally from a farm in Saskatchewan, Curt knows what a good days work is all about. When he's not working he can be found biking the trails, snowboarding, camping and spending time outside with his wife and daughter.

Andrew Cardwell
Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter
Andy began his plumbing career through a trades discovery program in Vancouver in 2006. He then completed his apprenticeship in Red Deer, Alberta. Andy has worked in the trade for 20 years. His depth of experience includes new homes, large scale commercial projects, industrial projects and a wide variety of renovations and custom homes.

Andy has also completed several projects in his own homes and for friends & family. He lives up to the name, "Handy Andy."

Although Andy was raised in Central Alberta, he's always love the mountains. Andy moved to Fernie with his family in 2020 and never looked back. He's often found at the hill on his board in the winter and at the golf course in the summer. He also enjoys camping and hiking with his wife (Val) and daughter.
Valerie Turbak
Admin/Operations
Val is passionate about business and runs the administrative side of Coal Creek Mechanical. She is constantly ticking all the boxes and refining our systems. Val also enjoys being a part of the projects we work on. She is an avid DIY enthusiast - a trait she admits that she gets from her Dad.

Val moved to Fernie in 2021 from Calgary to join Andy after he'd taken a job in the area. She loves mountain biking, paddleboarding, skiing and just about anything outdoors. Val has worked in admin/purchasing roles for several years in the bike industry and finally decided to team up with Andy and Curt to start the business.
